Is anyone familiar with this site? I Got a 'Messenger
Service' window that popped up on my pc and it tells me to
go here to download a patch in reference to 'Buffer
Overrun in Messenger Service Could Allow Code Execution
(828035).
Thank you.

Lloyd;
Been around a while.
They will graciously sell you what Microsoft gives you for free from
windows Update.

Messenger service being misused but a MVP can not tell this.

"messenger service" is a sure tip-off: This is spam!

It also indicates that you have a significant vulnerability which you should
do something about: You need a firewall.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/default.asp

Go to the above URL and follow all three steps. Firewalls can be free,
Windows Update is free, and some antivirus vendors have free products.

You need all three, although none of them, nor the combination, can protect
you against all threats.

Dirk;
I am not sure of what your point is unless you suggest Messenger
Service was ignored by me.
That was not the question asked by the OP.
Also, many business and some home users use Messenger Service for
legitimate purposes.

My point was and is your answer. It is not a solution expected from a
supossed MVP.
It could be my answer :-)

So--rather than sniping, why not post that additional bit of information
that's relevant and important?

If the community of peers here degenerates into camps--with folks sniping at
each other over supposed perks--MVP designation, for example--it isn't going
to do those who come here for help any good.

I understand your point, and I'm sure Jupiter Jones does, as well--but why
not make it in a positive way?

Are you asking J.J. to come to your aid?

Dirk;
I am not sure what your point is.
You also seem to be making a snap judgment without all the facts, hang
around a while and you will get the facts.
It is not always apparent exactly what is being asked.
In that case, the OP can respond with further information as
requested.
However as I said before, I answered the question the OP asked while
you have posted three times to this thread, at least two of them
critical and you have yet to offer any solution at all.

If you have something creative to add, you are free to do it.
One of the best features of this type of forum is if someone feels
something may have been missed by another poster, information can be
added or corrected.
If you notice Bill answered the other implied part of the question
that you seemed to be critical and yet missed yourself.
However critical posts have the effect of stopping communication as
now people are afraid someone like you will strike at them instead of
offering creative advice.
