One contact occasionally gets my mail with an attachment. This attachment is
her MY Documents directory and it contains all her personal files. What
causes this?

My virus defs are updated and complete scans find nothing.

My updated spybot and several other spy apps find nothing.

I have current ver of Zone Alarm.

It must be at the other end, but I find nothing in web searches about this
threat. If I could find some info, then I could send it to her, Otherwise it
is just me saying "its not me". She has never gotten this form anyone else.

help.

tks,
Paul

Ask her what antivirus software she's running, whether it's current
generation, and whether she keeps it updated, and whether she's run a full
scan.

Her AV is not current and she has other security holes. I have told her
this. HOWEVER, she has only gotten this from me. I have told her that it is
NOT from my end, but unless I can tell her specifically what it is and give
her some web references, I have given her no specific reason to believe me.
If this is a virus, then why are there no mentions of it anywhere on the
web?

If your anti virus definitions are current, and your security methods are
tight, the odds are it is her computer. But, without a good and accurate
description of the symptoms on her computer, it isn't likely that anybody
can help you.

If it contains *her* My Documents in the message she has, then obviously it
didn't come from you. You can not send something you don't have to someone
else that already has it.

The second thing to keep in mind it that virtuall all virus use fake return
addresses that they have gather along the way. Typically the one person you
can be *sure* it never came from is the one it says it came from.

Well, we realize that I did not actually send her document to her, but still
it did appear in mail sent by me. Both occurrences did actually contain the
text message sent from me, so it was not from another source and just using
my return address.

Is she the only one in the WWW that got an bogus mail attachment containing
her "My Documents" ??

I have no idea. As mentioned before, without knowing that her machine is
free of viruses, malware, is fully patched (Office apps & Windows alike),
it's all just a big guessing game. If she's accusing you of sending her a
virus, tell her to do a virus scan. I don't see why this should be made your
problem when she hasn't offered any useful information to demonstrate that.

I've made it my problem. That's just the way I was built. Lets say that she
does have malware, spyware, and virus. Why can't I do a www search listing
the symptoms and find a cause? That's what my health Doctor does.

Oh my - your doctor goes to Google when he's trying to diagnose a health
issue? I'd probably shop for a new MD. :)

That said, you can search google, etc., to your heart's content and may even
find something if you can narrow the serch terms down enough to make it
useful. Given the vagueness (no error message, for example) this may be a
long and painful process, but if you are diligent enough you may succeed.

If you find something and it turns out to be the cause/fix, please post
back so others can benefit. There's really very little anyone can do with
the question as it stands, so I can't help further, other than to say that
if this is a good friend of yours, you might want to see if you can get your
hands on her PC to run scans of all kinds to make sure her computer is in
good working order. Good luck and happy hunting.
