My son has Norton av on his Win98se Dell desktop. He sent me the following e-mail.
Can you help me advise him please?:

I got a computer virus a few days ago, and it was
immediately quarantined...and since it was in a
temporary folder, I decided to delete it.
I have been having weird troubles with my computer
ever since.

Just tonight, I rebooted my computer, and I got the
following message in a small box...

"The C:\WINDOWS\EDLLEXE file appears to be corrupt.
Reinstall the file, then try again."

Can you help me with what I should do?

EDLL.exe is not a part of windows.

It it quite likely that it was a virus, and deleting it is probably the
right thing to have done.

He needs to update his Norton antivirus to the latest signatures, and run a
full scan of the machine. If he has trouble understanding the report Norton
gives back, he needs to call Norton's support staff for help, or post here
giving exact details of what virus(s) were found.

It is unlikely that he has Swen, as the other reply posits. Swen was not in
the wild several days ago.
