Jenny,

If your automatic updates come from the internet (not from a local SUS server),
and if you have a home LAN I'd bet yours is internet sourced, then yes, you do
have to be connected to the internet when getting updates.

If you're on a corporate LAN, then your IT group should tell you if they have a
SUS server setup.
