unsafe attachments

My computer uses Windows XP and Outlook Express - any
email w/ an attachment says: OE removed access to the
following unsafe attachments in your mail. How can I lift
this security especially from people I know?

My preferred method: hit forward on the message, and open the attachment
from there. You don't have to actually send the forward.
If you want, you can disable the security settings, but be SURE you have
good antivirus software that scans email and is set to update itself
regularly.

Do bear in mind that it is precisely the attachments from people you know
that are most likely to infect you.

Really, the virus authors know this and have used it to their advantage for
some time now.

I know exactly what you mean, but I want to urge you to take extra care to
be sure that an attachment that comes from someone you know is really
referred to in their message--and not just in some vague way, but preferably
by name, at least.

And I want to encourage all of us to do this--to make very careful reference
to attachments--perhaps to the point of sending separate messages ahead of
the actual attachment.

Do this ONLY if you have an AntiVirus [continous]
protection. Click Tools --> Options. Click Security tab.
Uncheck the: Do not allow attachment.....could....a virus.
Click OK (or apply).
