Step one is make sure you have all of the windows critical
updates. Second make sure you have an up to date virus
scanner. Third get a good spyware/adware removel tool.
Make sure all are up to date and do a full system scan.
Below are some links that are usefull for getting our
computer secured. As far as telling if you are being/have
been hacked, unless you have logs from a firewall or some
such info I don't have any way of knowing. netstat will
only really tell you what ports are open, etc.. not if you
have been hacked. Hope this helps.

no.

if you are lucky netstat may show you something, but only if you are lucky.

do it continuously until you see a connection that you can't identify. then
identify it as a spy.

turn off your computer and put on a foil hat.

Start-up screen, password protected, boots with Num Lk lit up by ebraunstein

Since I purchased this laptop 2 years ago, I open the case, press the power
button, click on the screen icon for User 1, then type in my password and
press "enter," and my settings open the Windows Screen.

One week ago, I started the computer, clicked on the "User 1" icon, entered
the password, but it was incorrect. After several failures, I realized that
the "lock" icon used for "Num Lk" icon located just above the power on
button was lit. I pressed Num Lk, the light went out, and I was able to
enter my password.

The Num Lk is illuminated now whenever I boot the computer, and must now be
turned off before the password can be entered. This is new, and I can deal
with it now that I know. However, I would like to understand how the change
occurred on by computer, and how to program the laptop to boot with Num Lk
turned off.

Any brainiacs out there with an understanding of computers.

Thanks, Eric
