On a frends computer with win xp instaled had a reocuring problem in that the
pc would shut down without warning
we scaned the pc with up to date anti virus software and spybot and lavasoft
all ok
the problem continued at iregular intervals with no set patern
we then tryed reparing win xp (home edition) still the same problem
we tryed this again still the same problem
Next we fermated the hard drive and did a clean install all went fine till
we got to about 75% of installing componants a screen flashed up please
insert cd silicone .com
we had to abort the instilation and then repeated the process and the same
thing ocurd
I then inserted a drive scruber to scrub the hard drive which took several
hours and cleared the cmos and then formated and reinstaled win xp home
edition no problem and all apears to be ok now
has any one come across this before, the only referance to a silicone virus
i could find was on the symantic web site but the syimptoms were slightly
diferent and their was no fix
