I don't know what changed either since I can't see your computer, but
try taking ownership of the files:

Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -

Thanks for your reply Malke, I knew to right click, similar to windows
2000, but when I right click I dont have a security tab. Is there a way
to make this future available?

Oh yeah, the options are "properties and sharing... sharing is the
closest thing related to security, but im guessing that this isint it."
if I could post a snap shot of what im trying to explain, I would. Is
there a way to do that on this board?
Thanks
Charles

In order to get the security tab:

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. In Folder Options - View, uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'. That is
the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by default in
Pro, too.

If the drive is NTFS and the version is XP Home, go into Safe Mode to
see the security tab. Or go into Safe Mode and log into the normally
hidden Administrator account and see if you can access the data that
way. If you can, try copying it to your user account's My Documents and
delete the original folder. You can always make it again.

If all else fails, use Knoppix to copy the data (which isn't affected by
XP permissions), then delete the folder (from Windows), recreate it,
and put the data back.
