so i downloaded this application off of kazaa thinking it
was winzip 8.0 . stupid i know. when i began to install it
the dialogue box read "self-extracting file created by
self-extracting file user #....." what does that mean??

That's a zipped file with unzipper/launcher in it. Winzip comes as a
self-extracting archive. However, _real_ Winzip message doesn't mention
"user #" - most likely, you have downloaded a virus or trojan. Don't run it;
check your computer with an antivirus, or use online security/virus checker
like security.symantec.com

Download Winzip from http://www.winzip.com. Never use software from Kazaa
and alikes - that is how your PC gets infected (we blame Microsoft for that,
though)

Be aware that something like 80% of executables downloaded from P2P programs
are trojans. Don't do it. I personally don't even recommend using any of
that P2P stuff anyway.

If you want Winzip, go to www.winzip.com
