When I receive a notice from Microsoft that there are
updates to install, some of them say, "Once you install
this item, it cannot be removed." i.e. #819696. This
bothers me. Can anyone reassure me about installing
something that CANNOT be installed. Thanks. Janice

Janice;
There is always a degree of risk.
If available System Restore can be used thus effectively removing a
patch that causes troubles.
Proper preparation such as rebooting and disabling unnecessary
applications before installation can go a long way.

Think of a patch as you would surgery.
Even the most simple can have consequences up to being fatal.
The proper steps are taken to reduce the risk and be able to reap the
benefits of the surgery.
The patch performs a form of surgery on the operating system, very
small for some patches, major surgery for Service Packs.

But there are no guarantees.

Tedd;
I have never had a bad patch, partially because of preparation I am
sure.
Hopefully you surgeon will be even better prepared and everything goes
smoother so afterwards you will not even feel like it happened.

Jupiter,
I have never had a patch go bad either except years ago with a Compaq
SoftPak ROM update. The Microsoft ones have all been solid for me.
Thanks about tomorrow, the only worry I have is the Doc uses a Palm
Pilot.....

Thanks Janice !
I hope it does also, the thing got delayed by two hours, I should have been
there already. This not eating or having any liquids since midnight last
night is not easy !! I should be back in a day or two and working
"halfway".....
Thanks again, that was nice to say :-)

Janice;
Precedent does not really apply.
"Can not be removed" refers to the lack of an uninstall option, it has
no effect on system Restore which should effectively remove the patch
as long as the Restore is before the installation time.
