Just installed the Windows XP Service Pack II. With all of
it's security features, is a separate anti-virus program
desirable for a home user? Microsoft seems not to have
commented on this.

Yes, absolutely, an anti-virus package from your vendor of choice is highly
recommended.

Yes. AV is highly recommended for every Windows workstation.
www.grisoft.com and BitDefender are two respected free AV programs.

SP2 makes it much harder for a virus to infect a computer but that's all.

Please keep your antivirus running and up to date.

Fix *what* problem? Microsoft doesn't provide AV software. That's a
function you need to get from a third party. And yes, you need it.
