I know that this has been posted before, but I tried to do
what it said and it didn't work. When I go to search at
msn.com it says that I have downloaded a malicious program
that won't let me get to the site and that I should go
tweakxp.com. When I try to go to google.com, it sends me
to a page that says that I have software on my computer
that won't let me go the website. However, using search
on netscape.com is no problem.
I tried going to
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/tro
jan.qhosts.html
and used the removal tool found there, but it said that
the trojan was not on my computer. What else should I try?

Where should I get this? What does it do that my virus
protection doesn't do? Why should I trust this
software? Will it interact okay with what I already have
on my computer? How will this help with the problem that
I already have?

Read the following:

Protect you from malicious applications that hijack your computer.

You trust your anti virus application don't you?

As you have not indicated what you have on your computer then you need to
let us know.

Try this site for the Qhosts fix and you should keep your operating system
up to date:

You can try this.....
Use Windows Explorer to find a file called Hosts. It has
no extension.
Possible locations:
Windows 95/98/Millennium: c:\windows\hosts [/me]
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
If it does not show up there do a file search for hosts
When you find it, move it to it's proper location for the
operating system that you use as listed above.
Then.....
Once you find it (and relocate it if necessary) rename it
to hosts.bak
You will need to let windows accept the change, it is safe
to do so.
Now try to connect to Google.
If it fixed the problem you were having do this:
Open it (the hosts file) up in Notepad, and delete entries
in there that are referring to the (page(s) Google) you
can't visit. You can delete all the entries if you wish.
Save in File, close Hosts file, reboot (even if you
probably won't need to) and try again.

If you're interested in Ad-aware (a well known and trusted
program), download and run Adaware (free version) from
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=506
It detects and safely removes dataminers, tracking
cookies, dialers, BHO's and other objects from your
computer. This link will help you configure AAW for your
first scan: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?
showtopic=11613
If you have any questions, their forums are here:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/
It's very important that you update your ref files before
each scan because they are updated frequently. Click on
the globe or "Check For Updates Now".

This newsgroup is for help yes, however I would expect
that people who request help, can do some research on
their own. Google.com is a great search tool the same
results
can be reached with yahoo.com just type in the name
for further reaching search tool, try webferret it
contacts many databases for results. I understand your
frustration with the various virus and malware going around
have a great one.
