i was surfing tonight when a message i've never seen
popped up saying that my computer was being monitored (i
was doing a google search for haircuts and ended up on a
porn site... i'm still trying to find the link between
the two). anyway, this message had my ip adress, my os
and other information that seems to me would be
impossible to have if this wan't true. i posted something
similar a few weeks ago because i was afraid that someone
may have hacked into my computer and i can't change my
security settings cause they're in korean right now. i
may have gotten screwed by one of those fake msn security
messages.

can this be true???? if so, is there anything i can do to
stop/block someone monitoring my computer?!?!?!?!?

lesson learned: don't look for possible haircuts on the
internet.

thanks,

worried in korea

Hmm, have you ever seen the movie 'American Wedding' ?

This is just a 'scam' meant to try to scare you into something. IP
address are how the internet works.. if you go to a web page, the
webserver has to know where to send the page to, right? So behind the
scenes when you go to a web page and make a request, all sorts of
information is sent with that request.. what browser you're using (IE,
Netscape, Mozilla, etc), your IP address etc. This is just 'How things
work'.

Unplug it? Seriously.. there's nothing to be worried about.. it's just
a 'scare tactic' advertisement.

Unless you _want_ to find porn. hehe.

Groucho,

One thing you might try is to use a personal firewall,
like Sygate. It has blocked all sorts of people from being
able to see what's on your PC and it is simple enough to
set up and use I even did it and it was the first time I
ever tried anything like that..

Good luck

Wendy

thanks wendy!
i was thinking of getting a firewall, but i want to try
to get my hands on a damn english copy of windows before
i do, just so i can understand all the prompts and
messages. (why can't we just learn these things by
osmosis????)

cheers,
j.
