2nd request -- Java: Which version is safe?

I'm using Windows XP Home SP 1. I use Outlook 2000, Firefox, and
occasionally IE 6.

I think the Java I'm using is v1.4. I downloaded it from Sun. I
gather there's a security problem with it? Which version of Sun Java
should I be using?
