Today, I began receiving a popup about "MAP132 exception"
saying there is an internal error. A form is provided for
my completion. Is this something legitimate? Also,
I keep receiving "popups" about how to stop popups. The
popups seem to come from different sources, must I
purchase something to halt the popups?
Thanks.
p.s. this is a new computer and an upgrade from Windows
98 to XP so I have a lot to learn.

I regret to inform you that you are infected with a virus.

You may have installed a bit of software which appeared to have been mailed
to you by Microsoft.

Here's a couple of references to tools to clean your machine of this virus.

To do so, you may need to restart, and log in as Administrator, using the
password you set on that account when installing XP. You may want to read
Symantec's description of the virus before disinfecting:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.html

Here's Symantec's disinfection tool:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.removal.tool.html

And, for good measure, McAfee's Stinger virus removal tool:

I started to fill out a form that appeared and realized I do not have a server, so I stopped, cancelled; however, this Map132
error keeps popping up every minute -- no matter what I am doing -- writing, playing a game, etc. Am so tired of it. What
can I do to get rid of it?

It is the swen virus see
