I was using norton antivirus , when it expired i replaced it with norton
spyware edition, I downloaded it from the symantec site.I believe the old
version is replaced by the new one you install. Since download, having
trouble with connecting to internet unless I turn off the firewall. When sbc
self support tool checks my dsl connection, it says my modem needs to be
directly connected to the computer. When I turn off the norton firewall. I
have no problem with my connection. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, having
a hard time getting around!

Hello hopeful.

I had the same issue when the last time I tested Norton IS 2005 (Antispyware
ed.)
This happened because Norton IS 2005 has integrated Personal Firewall which
is very nasty in my opinion and also difficult to control.Your problem
because because Norton's firewall blocked Internet Explorer (iexplorer.exe)
and some other files essential for internet.

So the only decision I would suggest is to contact Symantec and change to
Norton ANTIVIRUS 2006 (not Internet Security, only Antivirus)

So while installing the new 2006 Antivirus ,you will be able to keep your
Windows Firewall ON and turn OFF Norton AV's worm protection so you will have
no problems.
