I've noticed lately that my computer has been acting
strange. It seems almost as if someone else is controling
my computer in the backgroud. For example after a few
minutes of inactivity my screen saver will come on, and a
few minutes later the screen saver will stop and the main
desktop screen comes back on. It doesn't make scence for
this to occure since no one is working at the computer. I
scanned for computer viruses with Norton Antivirus 2002
and found none. It even has the newest virus definitions
and updates installed. I also scanned my computer for
spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and found nothing.
It too was up to date. I have Windows XP firewall enabled
along with Norton's Personal Firewall. Any suggestions as
to what could be causing my screen saver to stop and the
main desktop screen to come back on for no reason? Please
email me. flowmaster85@charter.net

OK, how many times have you seen this?

Your mouse is probably very sensitive. A small viration
could make the mouse move, thus deactivating the screen
saver.

On the other hand, you could have a remote control loaded
by some hacker or script kiddie, but if you're firewalled
as well as you say, it isn't likely. Does the mouse
move? Check for obvious things like dameware ( a free
remote control program) is installed (and you didn't
install it). Naorton will not detect Dameware ( or several
other off the shelf packages like it) since it is a ligit
program... how is your firewall configured? Do you know
how to check which ports are opened and in use? As a test,
why not disconnect from the net and try and see if the
behavior is repeated offline?

More than likely it's some type of mouse movement causing
this.
What kind of mouse do you have and where is it located?
Mine is an optical mouse ontop of another piece of
equipment, that occasionally makes vibration, I see the
same kind of behaviour, but I know what's causing it
so no biggy...
