Is there a way to lock someone from going into the
internet via Internet Explorer?

My husband and I need internet access for work therefore,
we access the internet via Internet Explorer. We don't
have AOL and MSN. However, Instant Messaging download can
be obtained as soon as kids go to the internet via
Internet Explorer. We want these teenagers locked out of
the internet altogether.

Please help!!!

Ask yourself this: Who is the parent and who is in charge?

Now, which operating system do you have? If you're running Win2000 or XP you
can set up profiles for individual users and NOT grant your children
administrative rights.
That should keep them from installing any programs.
Of course, that will require your serious consideration of my first
question.

That is difficult to do an a shared computer. One way would be to install a personal
firewall like Kerio and set it up to restrict/block access to the internet and then
password protect the firewall configuration. When you use the computer you could
disable the firewall to allow your self access and then enable it when you are done.
You still should have a firewall at the cable/dsl modem for general protection.
Nothing will ultimately work if the other users have administrator access. There is
also a firewall program called Ports Lock that can have different firewall
configurations for different users that should work also. --- Steve

Upgrade to a operating system that allows for various
accounts, and do not allow them access to the internet
windows 2000 and xp both do this.
be sure your hardware is compatable with the operating
system before you make the purchase.
Microsoft has a program that can check your pc and tell
you if it's compatable or not.
not sure where it's located
just do a search on windows 2000/xp compatability software

What's your OS?
The sad truth is, there isn't much you can do to prevent clever teenagers
from bypassing any security you implement - the only true preventive measure
is preventing them from having any access to the computer at all. If they
can't use it the way you wish, maybe they shouldn't use it at all - a
computer with internet access is not exactly a birthright.
