Hi,

I really hope someone can help me with this one - I have a
braodband connection from NTL, my pc was infected with a
virus via NTL's network. They sent a disc with the above
patch and an MSBlaster removal tool from Symantech on it.
I followed the instructions but the tool reported no
virus. I also ran an exe supplied by NTL via the net
called FixWelch.exe - this did report a virus and said it
had been removed. Since then I have been unable to use any
MS application without the pc rebooting after a couple of
key strokes. Has anyone heard of this, even better knows
how to fix it.

thanks, Eve

Try the procedure here, it's made easier with a
downloadable script.

Let us know if the script works for you, please?

It should be easily downloaded and placed on a diskette at another machine,
but it needs an Internet connection to pull in the required patch (yes,
there's another one beyond the one you already put in!)

You may have another infection besides the original Welchia issue.

You may also want to try a cleaner application such as McAfee's Stinger
tool--this is kind of a hit and miss proposal--it covers 30 viruses, but we
have no way of knowing whether they include what is bugging your machine.
It is small and easy to test with:
