This could be any of several things, but I'd bet on Swen.
Here's Symantec's removal tool:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.removal.tool.html
You became infected because you are running a version of the OS which is
beyond its support life, and you didn't keep it updated while it was
supported.
You could still install IE 5.5, from here:
http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/5.5_SP2
Once you've done that, download the latest cumulative patch for it from
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E438AFD4-DF70-448C-8925-1075C8BE6C5E&displaylang=en
This site won't list Windows 95 as a supported platform, but the patch
installs find on Windows 95. Neither I nor anyone else, however, can
guarantee that it works properly, or that it won't have undesirable
side-effects on Windows 95. It does have one specific side-effect with
regard to HTML help which I've not found to be a problem on the machines
I've installed it to.
