Our laptop computer came with xp home editions installed. Somebody set it up so I could click on my user name and I'm in. For some reason I have the half of the screen that tells me to click on user name, but my name on the right side is now missing. All I can do is cut the thing off. What's worse, the "expert" that set it up no longer works for us
Anthony tells me " Do not Re-format with the operating program, if I install the c.d.

I have no idea who Anthony is, of course.
If I had a home computer which had been set up by
some one else, that developed access problems after that
person left, I would 1) Copy off any data that I could
not afford to lose and 2) Reformat. Installing the
operating system is not at all difficult. Once the
operating system was back, I would set up a firewall on
the machine before I connected to the internet. Then I
would install an antivirus (AV) product. Then I would go
to windows update and apply all critical patches, and
update my AV definitions. Finally, I would AV scan the
data I copied off.
