hi.
i have just found a hidden system folder called searchverity in 'my
documents'.
it doesn't show up with windows explorer even with the relevant hidden and
system options selected. the files in it do not show up when using search
with hidden/system files checked.

i found this directory using a 3rd party file manager.

my question is - is this likely to be spyware. i would like to be sure
before deleting something important? i have antivirus and antispy and
neither have detected anything unusual.

many thanks

I likely installed as part of some app you have loaded (or is
named to appear so?) Verity has a line of software that centers
on optimizing search capabilities.
www.verity.com

Thank you for your reply.
One thought occured to me - I have installed Microsoft Synctoy which
synchronises directories. I guess this might use a search facility like
verity.

Best regards

I would doubt that MS is licensing any of their technology,
and am unfamiliar with this synctoy

Again, thank you.
I am unfamiliar with etiquette in these types of forums so forgive me if I
should just stop replying rather than thanking you for your time.

I believe that I have worked out origins of this searchverity folder. I
have recently installed paperport and when I searched for files yesterday
using paperport I noticed the verity logo. I do find it disconcerting that
normal windows folders will not display the folder even when the 'display
hidden and display system' options are enabled.

Incidentally, synctoy is a MS tool available via its download notifications.
It is an unfortunate name for a useful program that allows a wide variety of
options for synchronisation between folder pairs.

Again
Best regards and many thanks.

Glad you have worked it out.
There is also a category sometimes called super-hidden that they
may be using. However, if in the Explorer options you have enabled
showing all listed categories of hidden things, then the super-hidden
would be showing also.
