Well the settings for windows updater can be found in the
control panel. The problem here though is if you are not
up to date on your patches then you will have other
problems as well. You need to find out why the patch is
interfering with your system without removing the patch.
If you specify as to what patch is causing the problem I
might be able to offer more advice.

Win 98 doesn't have an automatic updater.

I'm pretty sure that 98 SE does though, and most people
don't distinguish the diffrence. Could be wrong, but I
remember it, although out of the thousands of computers I
have worked on, it wouldn't surprise me if I got confused
at some point.

Hi, Windows Automatic Update ran every five minutes on my Win98,
until I disabled it a few months ago. I seem to remember that I was
offered a new Automatic Update Notification App last week when I
downloaded the two new critical updates on the Microsoft Windows
Update page.

This is very helpful. However, I cannot open several
programs also. For example, I could not open any programs
on control panel.

I have already run Norton virus and some trojan clean up
programs.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Ken
