Ewido is great for cleaning up infested computers. I don't leave it
installed on clients' machines because I don't want to leave a trial
version of anything there. A lot of them got in trouble because they
let their trial version antivirus lapse, so I don't want to give them
the chance to let something else lapse.

Because they offer a fully functional trial version, you can download it
and install it and see for yourself if you like it.

I second Malke's recommendation. It finds and removes some spyware the
Adaware and Spybot don't. Download it and try it for the free trail and so
what you think.

I have been using Ewido v3.5 for 4-5 months now. It's not really a
trial version as I would usually describe "trial". It's more like a feature
crippled version. As far as I can tell, this one will work forever. The
only difference between it and the full version is that automatic updates
and realtime protection do not function. But as a weekly malware scanner,
it's a fine addition to the Spybot, Adaware, and MS Anti-Spyware trio.

I tried the same with Kaspersky trail version tonight and had nothing but
problems.
Despite installing with the run-time scanner switched off, it would not
co-exist with McAfees. It near killed the PC.
That is a shame as I have seen statistics which indicate that it is very
good at detecting all malware.

How do you expect a large software such as Kaspersky to cooperate with McAfee.
The result= death computer.
Boot in Safe Mode an remove one of the antiviruses.

Because I expect as an on-demand scanner it would be no problem.
I made sure the real-time scanner was _NOT_ installed.
Made no difference. It should.
