My daughter opened an attached file from an email sender
anasr@ccib.org.lb, sent to her university mail srever on
my computer. The file was an info.zip file, which when
opened said 'file corrupted'. Since then the hard drive on
the computer sounds like it has gone into overdrive. I
have a broadband connection and the data light flashes
continually even when I'm not using the internet. I'm very
concerned that she's opened something horrible. I'm
ashamed to say I have no virus protection. What can I do?

visit http://housecall.antivirus.com and use the free online virus scanner
to examine your machine. If that cannot clean the computer then visit
mcafee.com and look for "stinger".

And think about that virus protection for next time, please :-) prevention
is easier than cure.

You may want to think about purchasing something like
Nortons Internet Security program. It has a firewall,
antivirus, popup block and more. You can also download
and install free firewall(zonealarm)/antivirus programs.
You really do need to get some sort of protection on your
computer or this is going to happen alot more and as you
already know its a big headache.
Like Robert said Prevention is ALOT easier then the Cure!!

Prevention is as much about not opening potentially unsafe attachments as
having a AV program. Actually, more so. AV is nice; but what happens if you
are the first kid on the block to receive the latest virus, which the AV
vendors have yet to supply definitions for?
