Outlook xp ssl connection
I'm running two computers side by side, one at a win
98/outlook 2000 level, the other at a win xp/outlook xp
level. I'm trying to get my xp to send ssl (secure)
email, but it won't go. I get an error message stating
that my isp doesn't support ssl.
I have the same setup (I think) and the same isp(s)
running on the Outlook 2000 system, which works fine.
I've tried lots of stuff (firewall settings, different isp
(s), outlook express) but can't seem to get it to work.
What do you think? Tag: email attachments Tag: 35979

BE ALERTED
Hello;
This morning, I received 19 e-mails. 18 of them were
automatically deleted by; Outlook Express, Message Rules,
I had set up per the advice of this Newsgroup. The
remaining one was From: jwttl(or similar). The Subject:
was comprised of about 25 weird characters;(you often see
these characters in foreign language, alphabets.) This
message looked and smelled fishy, so I clicked on it to
Delete it. And Poof!! A dialogue box popped up, asking me
to select a country to download a Windows update. This is
a virus/worm. DO NOT respond to it. Delete it from your e-
mail immediately. Look within this Newsgroup for further
methods to protect your computer from virus attcks
perpetrated by these Scumbags(of a lesser kind) who
tarnish the Internet. Good luck.

want to increase PC security - clueless
Hi I'm starting to do business with clients from my home
computer and want to increase PC security and protection.
My internet connection is very slow (have tried different
servers), often seizes up or gets disconnected, and on a
number of those occasions I've received a message "the
port was disconnected by the remote computer". Does this
mean I might already have a bug of some kind in my
computer? If so, how do I get rid of it? I know I have a
mcafee virus scanner when opening email attchments.
I'm a little confused also about whether I need
spyware/virus scanner hardware or software. I'm going to
follow the msn 7 steps for increasing security for home
users but not sure if that would get rid of an existing
bug. Can anyone suggest any product I might need? Afraid
I'm very easily confused on these subjects!
The computer is an IBM thinkpad running windows 98. I'm in
France, but don't know the language well enough to post
this to a french group. Thanks! Tag: email attachments Tag: 35902

Just wanted to say to the person named Jack, you have got my goat and I
loved the challenge. A few responses you spoke about would be best
discussed in e-mail since it was hard to understand them.

I can't "agree" to download security patches
I have a problem. My mother has just acquired a used
computer with Windows 98. I have been working with it to
get it into shape and I attempted to download all the need
security patches. However, I kept getting a script error,
which I know little about. The problem was that when the
agreement box popped up,it did not allow the agree button
to be pushed. Since I could not agree, I could not
download the patches. Any suggestions? Would it work to
download them on my computer and mail them over? Thank yo
in advance. Tag: email attachments Tag: 35879

ques about Nachi virus
Evening everyone,
I was reading some posts here and saw that there were a
couple of questions pertaining to this nachi virus. This
is the first that I have seen this mentioned, Can you give
a little info about it? Heck, I'm still getting those
phony "install this patch" from Microsoft and also
supposedly they are coming from yahoo administrators too.
So to see this one being mentioned, I am curious to know
how this one is making its rounds and what kind of
destruction does this one do and so on.
Thank you,

Redirected site causing sign on to Internet
Upon clicking on Internet Ex., A site comes up that takes
over all selections. It showes that it is re-directing
the sign-on to another web site. I've been using Yahoo
for my home page (I.E. was erratic) but when the above
problem occurred, I.E. took over (it showed in the
header) and listed in search:

rediredt-to-http:www.newdefault-homepage-
339890002228333and other numbers (85all told).net.
While this was happening, I noticed a number being shown
at the bottom of the screen: 209.50.251.151 is this
someone else's id number?
I went into the browser setup and deleted
the "passthison.com and the 85 numbers and
selected "blank: It seemed to work; for how long, I don't

Requesting NTLM autontication ... !
Hi All.
Assuming there exist 2 stations A and B, on the network
Is there anyway (programmatically) that an application running on station A
will send a NTLM autontication request to B so that B will send the NTLM
tokens information to A ?
Please, let me know if you need more clarifications.
Thanks in advance. Tag: email attachments Tag: 35815
MS patch digital signatures
After deploying SP4 to my Win2k server, all MS patches now
come up with the same "Digital signature not found"
message. All of these patches were downloaded directly
from the MS Download Center (repeatedly - clearing the
browser cache between attempts). To make matters worse,
each one of these patches has a valid digital signature in
teh patch file when right-clicking and selecting
Properties > Digital Signature.
What is transpiring here? What is Windows actually doing
when it checks the digital signature of a file? Was
something changed/regressed with the application of SP4 to
Win2k? Tag: email attachments Tag: 35813

can I install 2 firewalls for Win XP
I understand that installing two firewalls on the same
system is not recommended as it may create conflict.
Despite this, does anyone know, or has been using two
effective firewalls on the same system running on windows
xp in conjunction with other antiviruses, spy/ad-ware
blockers and other bug guards without problems?? My
system runs on win xp pro and I have 'Tiny' firewall,
Norton antivirus (which I want to replace with Kaspersky
AV), SpyGuard, SpyBlaster, spybot and As-aware also
running on it. I want to add another firewall, possibly
Zonealarm, to run with those for extra security, but I
fear this may cause conflict and system instability. An
MVP's opinion would be appreciated. Tag: email attachments Tag: 35794
