    - Windows XP key not working,Outlook not working, does anything MS makes works ? bought a Windows XP upgrade disk from a friend and it installs ok, but has this dumb key on it that starts out with "XXXXX-640-blah-blah-blah" Whats the matter with it, is the installer or the software no good ?????? I paid good money for this crappe and get this and it cleaned out all my email and Kazaa. Next MS mess, how come Outlook 2003 (has almost the same bozo key number) does not send my messages to the forums and I have to use this way ? Is it not working too ? Like do they check any of these programs before they sell them ?? I paid almost $100 USD for this Office 2003 Professional and Windows XP Professional and both are messng up. Most of my games dont work no more and the thing is slow as shite on a stick, what bozos write this ? Or did I do something wrong on install ? Where did my mail go and howcome its still the old crappie Internet 6, where is Internet 7 ? how ca I get this junk off my harddisk ? I tryed to uninstall the stupid things and now it wants my Windows XP disk in the drive and I sold it right after I got it installed. what about AVG ??????I finally got that toad working and now it is not even there and I cant get it working neither. can somebody tell me what to do to fix this wreak before I go nuts or slam Microturd with spam !     - Secure Site Problem Folks, I used AdAware and Spybot S&D which helped get rid of junk, but still cannot get into only one bank secure site. I can get into other secure sites like 401, stocks etc. Have 128 bit and all the updates. Get message "specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a completee set of HTTP headers. The heades it did return are Unexpected error in module hb.exe. Could not load control file" I used to always get into this site and suddently cannot. The bank says Its my IE problem not theirs.     - MS Update Downloads For the past five days or so, each time I log on, the Downloading MS Updates icon appears in my systems tray and shows a status of downloading updates. This will happen several times throughout the day, however, I never receive the dialog box telling me that updates have been downloaded and are ready to install.     - ip masking question Running XP w/ built-in firewall activated. When I got to auditmypc.com it shows my system is secure. So far, so good. However, there are some websites and services that claim to mask your ip address from advertisers if you type a url into their web page instead of into your url window. However, when I test those claims by typing www.auditmypc.com into those sites' windows then click on Privacy Test and choose Option 1, that excellent site now shows all kinds of open ports and lists the various Trojan viruses that exploit them. Most of the sites/products do not seem to actually mask the ip address at all and auditmypc.com is able to detect that. All show numerous vulnerabilities and open ports. One site appears to mask the ip but still shows some vulnerabilities. Are those vulnerabilities 1) only vulnerabilities on the proxy server, or 2) does IE/XP allow those vulnerabilities to be opened on my system even if the firewall is activated?     - Outlook Express This is truly scary how long I have been on this computer just to find an email address to write for help on OUtlook. Is there an easy website or access to get here faster?? My question is I have upgraded to Explorer #6 and some security for my Outlook. Now many attachments come in faded(they cannot be clicked on) and when the email is opened it states "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachment.."     - Spyware - Please Help Hi, I think I may have some kind of spyware installed on my computer and I can't seem to get rid of it. Here is the description of the problem. One day I noticed a folder titled "Links" in my favorites (bookmarks) and I wasn't sure if it was installed with the IE installation or what. I deleted the folder and closed IE. The next time I opened IE, the folder had reappeared. Basically, I can't delete this folder from my favorites. When I close and reopen IE, it will always come back. There isn't anything in this folder, it's just an empty folder called "Links". I've run both Lavasoft - AdAware and Spybot - Search and Destroy. They both cleaned stuff off of my computer, but they didn't fix this problem with the "Links" folder appearing in my favorites. I don't really download too many programs, but I guess all it takes is one. I have Internet Explorer 6 SP1 installed. Does this sound like a Spyware problem to you? Do you know of any better Spyware programs available. Thanks in advance for any help in fixing this problem.     - Lost my way in Office 2003 Security Land: macros and addins I am an experienced software architect. I am "poweruser"user of Office, have experience in VBA (Access, Outlook, Access --> Word, Access --> Outlook, Outlook --> Access). I am retired now, use computer on;y for private purposes, in a home network with few Win XP Pro and Win ME systems, ADSL to internet, external website. And, now, I have problems with security in Office 2003. I should use high security level, with "trust all installed addins" cleared. To illustrate my problems, I will start Word. 1) Before the Word window opens, I get a first warning: Adobe PDFMaker 6.0 is in the menubar and I have to choose whether I want that or not. 2) Then I get a second warning: MS XML Toolbox has a toolbar, and I have to decide upfront whether I want that or not. 3) I used to have ScanSoft OmniPage 14 in the File menu and I had to decide whether I want that or not. (When fiddling around, I have succeeded in letting OmiPage disappear and I don not know yet know how to restore that: it was not in the addin list!) This all each time I start Word. My first problem therefore is: What to do with all these goodies that have become a nuisance? My second problem has to do with VBA. I cannot afford to have a certificate for code signing, all my programming is private, just for my home network.     - Recommended ports to leave open for BASIC inet access. Hello, I was wondering new of a site where I can get a list of ports that I need to leave open to use basic internet access.     - Serious Security & Administrative issue!!!! After you install "Windows XP Home Edition" (and possibly the "XP Professional Edition") and you change the Administration name to your own Log on name the Administration Log on is still there but does not show up any more unless you restart in "Safe Mode". That means there is a higher level Administration log on then your new log on (it can change things on all other Aministration level names) that isn't even password protected until you give it one. I have not seen any kind of warning about this from Microsoft anywhere. This is a security issue that is very serious!!!!!!!! Kids out there that find this out are likely to create there own administraion names and then delete them so parents don't know they have access to anything they want to do on the computer or the internet!!!!!!!! Hope that Microsoft and parents read this before kids or anyone that shouldn't have access to full rights on XP computers do. There is no warning that the Default Administrator account still exists after your change the default Administration account to another name. It appears that your new account is the only Administrative level account, but the default Administrator account is still there, but only if you restart in "Safe Mode". The fact is there is no warning about the Default account still being there and Micrsoft should get the word out AND fix this problem I should explain what happened so that it is better understood what I mean. When I install Windows XP Home Edition I do not add a password until I have added all the Microsoft updates and the software I have to. That makes the install faster not having to log on. I did not create a new Administrative Account. I changed the Default Administrative Account's name, then added a password. This left no other account showing on the log on screen. I found the Administrator Account when I had a problem that caused me to end up in safe mode. When I logged on to this Administrator Account it didn't need a password and could change things on the Account I had a password on. I logged on to my normal account name while in safe mode and tried to do things to the Administrator Account and found that my normal User Account didn't have the same rights over the Administrator Account even though it had full Administrative control. Clearly this is a serious security issue since most people would not end up in the safe mode with how stable XP is. People trying to find ways around having a Limited User Account could use this access point. I also wonder if it is possible a hacker could log on with this Administrator Account from the internet. I have read security adviseries that say you should change any accounts that have the name Administrator to a different name since hackers will try to use that name. Is it possible for a hacker to gain access to this Account even though it is only available in safe mode This is something that should be changed Just tried something with this serious Security Issue to see if I could do what I thought could be done. I went into safe mode and logged on under this Default Administrator Account and created a new User account with Administrative Rights. Then I logged on as the new name under a normal start up. I then deleted the password for my main User Account I normally use. Anyone out there that has kids using what is supposed to be a safe Limited User Account on a computer could be letting them do anything they want and not even know it. The kids could add there own password to this Default Administrator Account and then create as many Full Admin accounts they want or delete the existing administrative accounts that the parents are using or delete the password it had and look at anything the parents have that is supposed to be safe from the kids prying eyes Tag: The doom virus Tag: 45763
