One post is enough. :)

Your favorites are stored as files in a special directory. One
way to delete them is to delete all the files in this directory,
except the one named Desktop.ini (wich may be hidden,
anyway).

To do this, open the File Explorer, and go to your profile
directory. On WinXP, this is something like
C:\Documents and Settings\JohnB
Your favorites are in the subdirectory named "Favorites"
(or a translation in another language). Delete its content
(_not_ the directory), except for Desktop.ini if you see it.

John,

You sound really stressed.I think I can guess what's=20
happened.
If they are favourites that have suddenly appeared=20
without you putting them there, chances are,I.E. has been=20
hijacked.

Visit http://cexx.org for assistance in removing the=20
hijacker.

Under ordinary circumstances, deleting old favourites is=20
easy:right click>select delete>confirm deletion,empty=20
recycle bin.

Right. I thought he only had _a lot_ of favorites to delete.

If the problem is that some favorites are appearing from
nowhere, you (John) should look for the program that is
adding them.

Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

CoolWebSearch Chronicles & CWShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Run in this order:

1. CWShredder (fix all)

2. Ad-Aware (fix all)

3. Spybot (generally, fix all in red)

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
