If my computer is a single PC with ADSL connection, can I leave the password blank when I login the XP?

I am not using LAN, and I am the single user of PC. Is it secure that I
leave the password of user blank when I login the Windows XP?

If you really want to be safer, add a router to sit between you and the
dsl modem. Consumer-level routers (Linksys, Netgear, Buffalo, etc.) are
inexpensive now.

Then if you want a little extra protection add a strong password to the
built-in Administrator account and also to your own user account. If
you have XP Home, you can only access the built-in Administrator
account by going into Safe Mode. For convenience, you can set your
computer to log in automatically to your user account after you set the
password.

Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is
starting up. This will get you to the right menu. Use your arrow keys
to navigate since the mouse won't work here. Log into the Administrator
account so you can assign a good password. Write it down somewhere you
won't lose it!

Hello . The fact you are on ADSL connection / not LAN / has nothing to do
with the admin password . The fact you are on DSL connections makes you more
secure than the LAN because most DSL connections are with dynamic IP (your IP
regularly changes, which makes you are moving target for hackers .

This is a no brainer. Use a password, use a passphrase in fact...
You are attaching to the biggest public network there is, and you are
not concerned....

I know the reason(s) why it is better to have no passwords blank , including
the Admin one . However , you mentioned ADSL and user account password and I
just told you they have nothing in common

More importantly:

1. Use a router, not a USB modem.

2. Install SP2 if you don't have it already. (mainly for the firewall)

3. Use Firefox, Seamonkey or Opera. Don't use Internet Explorer.

4. Did I mention, don't use Internet Explorer?

Working passwordless is not too advisable on a LAN, because passwords also
apply to file-sharing. It has little relevance to your situation, though.
