I use Windows XP Pro, and I have a stay-alive-connection, and some idiot
keeps getting in to my computer he doesn't do anything to hurt my system but
I'm tired of pulling the power cable to keep him out for a day or 2 . I know
his Ip address only. I have contacted my Isp, but they suck and don't do
anything. I can not unplug my network cable, I have people that I know
downloading and uploading stuff to my computer/server for there backups and
stuff like that, so that is an option i can not take.

My question is: Is there a program that I can block his Ip from entering my
computer, that is free?

Please help me!

You need a firewall that can filter inbound traffic more granularly than the
firewall you have now. I suggest you try Sygate [ free for personal use] which
will allow you to add deny rules for specific IP addresses. Ipsec filtering can
also do the same and is built into XP Pro if you want to try that. The link
below has example of ipsec filtering. You could create a mirrored block policy
with the IP addresses of the hosts you want to block. --- Steve

I don't know why your ethnicitiy or nationality enters into this, but it
sounds like you need to take a good look at your computer/network security.
Who else are you letting in, and via what ports? Authentication required?

You can do it with a software firewall; Sygate and Kerio Personal Firewall
are free. But I would recommend using a NAT router with SPI filters. You can
define a narrow range of IP addresses (as few as one) for either access or
blocking.

What are you using to do the downloading and uploading? That could possibly
be the very start of your problems.

What are the symptoms of "some idiot keeps getting in to my computer", and
how are you sure that "he doesn't do anything to hurt my system"? If you
don't know enough about your system to keep him out, how do you know that he
hasn't done anything harmful?

If you don't mind, I'll ask another few questions in return:

What if he has a program in your computer that is configured to run on
startup, and which connects to his machine?

How can you be sure that merely preventing him from making a connection in
is going to stop him from controlling your computer?

Does the attacker have another computer, at another address, that he can use
to connect to yours even after you disable his ability to connect to you?

As for advice on how to do exactly what you've asked, others have already
answered that adequately. My concern is that this may not help your
situation.

It may be sufficient to block this user, or you may have become sufficiently
infected that you'll want to backup your data and "flatten" the machine -
reformat it and reinstall it from scratch. Without more information, it's
impossible to tell what your best strategy should be.

Alun.
