I just recently noticed when I open my home page that
a "N" in a black box appears before the http://. Once I go
to another site it usually disappears and is replaced by
the normal interent explorer"e". Does anyone know what
this "N" is and how do I get rid of it? I use Road Runner
as an internet provider but they say it has nothing to do
with them.

It's probably a favicon. A web site can specify an icon to put there, which
gives them some customization and also makes it easier to tell the
difference when you save it as a favorite. Any web site that doesn't have a
favicon will use the default image.
