I'm wondering how much I really need SP2. I download all the patches
and I have Norton Antivirus updated every day. Am I taking that much
of a risk? Isn't there a risk of problems if I do get SP2?

Does anyone know how much SP2 in general will be??

SP2 is a free service pack.

It will become generally available as a download this week, or later as
a free CD. SP2 includes numerous enhancements, a number of which
are for your protection in this increasingly hostile network-world.

While it sounds like you have been doing your due-diligence to remain
safe, IMO you will be better off with the service pack installed, if for no
other reasons than making your machine eligible for all future patches
and getting the enhanced IE installed.

You may want to visit us in the Windowsxp specific newsgroups to see
how others have faired with the install - specifically with respect to
software
that you have installed that may be impacted, and then jump on in.

Hi

You will be able to get security updates for SP1 for a couple of years
to come I think (officially I think MS supports fully supports the
previous service pack for 1 year). But at one point in the future you
will not get any updates to SP1 anymore.

If you look at Windows 2000 (current SP level is 4), MS does not
release updates to SP1 anymore, and SP2 is about to come on the
no-update list as well (I think MS expanded the time limit for
Win2k SP2 because of customer demands).
