Suddenly there is an asp.net machine account on my login page, and I can not
log into my computer at all. I never had a password set for my own account,
and now the settings won't allow interactive logon. .Net password does not
work either. I hope somebody has an answer other than reformat.

You don't understand something, so you decide it has "hijacked" your
computer. Interesting approach.

The asp.net user was created when you first installed the .Net Framework
(from either Windows Update or an application you installed that requires
it.) It's not really a user account - it's used by .Net developers. The rest
of us can simply ignore it. The account does not have a password.

Your logon problems aren't related to .Net. Possibly due to something you
tried to do to prevent your computer from being "hijacked" by a part of the
operating system.

the .net account has been benignly on the pc for quite some time with no
password. The fact that it now appears where once it was hidden, and I can
not log on to my pc is the issue. Not whether I understand it. thanks.

Can you login if you leave the password blank?
