this about blank has taken over my home page and if you
use its search you get a list of porn sites how do I

Unfortunately there is only one specialized tool that will remove the
CWS.aboutblank variant and that is AboutBuster. CWShredder doesn't work
and Ad-aware and Spybot don't remove the hidden DLL.

description of this CWS variant, but I would suggest you post a new
topic on forums.spywareinfo.com and include your HiJackThis log for an
expert analysis. Get HJT at

You may try to list the BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) in IE with BHOdemon.
Search with Google for it.
SP2 will provide that list on it's own.

I was able to use CWS Shredder this weekend on one with perfect success.
Maybe yours isn't the newest. I have also been successful with Spy Sweeper.
There are getting to be so many of these "Tools" out on the Net its hard to
keep up, and Ad-Aware seems to be "falling behind" in its ability to detect
and remove stuff.

There are still people getting the older versions of CWS, but if you
find that CWShredder doesn't remove CWS, you have one of the newer
versions. If you see about:blank (which you didn't set) or "res" in any
start or search pages, then you have a new variant.
