What is the difference between doing an ASR (using the Wizard) and manually
performing a backup with c:\ and System State selected?

It appears from the documentation that you can create a recovery floppy from
a backup with System State by simply copying some files from the
%systemroot%\repair directory

There are some differences...

1. ASR will only backup those system related files (system state, boot files
etc), but not data files. Bakup allows you to select what files to backup.

2. In recovery, normal backup need to first install a fresh OS on the
machine (assume something wrong and could boot up require new installation)
and then run backup wizard to perform normal restore of system state and data
files
ASR will do a mini-install of the OS from the CD and restore from the backup
done previous thru the ASR method.
In this case the download for using ASR is shorter than normal
backup/restore strategy.
