Does anyone know how I can block others from opening my start menu and
opening my desktop folders?

While you can use passwords in ME to access your user profile ME is not a
secure operating system and anyone can open anyone else's folders. If you
upgrade to XP Home you at least can prevent users from accessing your
private folders within the operating system since XP uses the NTFS file
system which allows permissions to be assigned to folders for each user.
There are third party tools that can encrypt and password protect the
contents of a folder such as Folder Lock and it is free to try. Any
encryption program has it's risks so be sure to read the documentation on
how to protect yourself from YOU losing access to your data. --- Steve

SO, What your basically saying is that is it best that I go ahead and upgrade
to Windows XP, right?
If so, is there a certain edition that would be best to get??

No, that's not what Mr. Umbach said at all. He answered your question
regarding security in Windows ME and suggested alternatives. If you
want to upgrade to XP, only you can determine whether your computer can
handle it and/or which version of XP will meet your needs. Here are
links with XP system requirements and comparisons of the different XP
versions. In addition, make sure drivers for your computer's hardware
are available for the XP operating system.

XP Home system requirements (please bear in mind that your computer will
be extremely slow with only the minimum requirements):

If you'd like opinions from people reading this newsgroup as to what
would work for you, post back with your computer specs, the type of
work you do on the computer, and what programs you mainly use.
