If I have a machine running XP OS and I'm running WinNT within a virtual
machine environment on this PC. The question is, if I continue to patch and
apply all security updates on the host XP machine, does this still leave the
WinNT virtual machine vunerable??

Definitely yes -- specially if this Windows NT is in any way connected to
the network.

normally if you runnig os on virtual machine every ting you do it is still in
image file of virtual os when you close virtual machine and save. in case i'm
idea not have effect to virtual image.
