Every time I log on to AOL, I get a message from Microsoft
Messenger (pop up type). States I must upgrade and
download to use. When I click more info, I get
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/whatsnew.asp
I have my computer set on security against adult sites, so
I cannot excess due to adult content. I think it may be a
virus or hi-jack.
I ran Norton and came up with the following virus...
Backdoor.Sinit
JS.Exception.Exploit
Java.Nocheat
I think I deleted all and also ran Spybot, Hijack this,
and Lava, but I am still getting the Microsoft messenger.
I have tried deleting Microsoft messenger, but will not
let me.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Why do you think it's a virus? You've run an AV scan, and presumably that
has told you that it has removed the viruses that it found, right?

On October 15th, Microsoft disabled the ability of older versions of Windows
Messenger to connect to the required servers in order to log on to the
Windows Messenger network.

You apparently have an older version, and it is configured to be used by
some software on your system. Update it, or remove it.

This is not a security issue. Because of the popup nature of the box
advising you that Messenger is out of date, it may look like a virus, but
you've done the obvious things - run an up-to-date AV scan and remove all
viruses it finds. Now you need to do the next obvious thing - update
Windows Messenger.
