    - firewall settings I have installed a firewall (Sygate) and it seems to work well. I get one message which I do not fully undestand so am hoping that someone can explain this to me. I occasionally get a message which says "Generic host processes are trying to contact ......." and this is connected to the Windows file svchost.exe. I am running Windows XP Pro. Three questions: 1. What exactly is the role of this service? 2. Should I allow it to connect to the internet? 2. Will it stop some part of Windows working properly if I do NOT allow it. Many thanks for any help. I created few certificates using makecert.exe for different windows users under LocalMachine hive with some store name, i.e 1 certificate for Admin(using Admin login) 1 certificate for testuser1(using testuser1 login) 1 certificate for testuser2(using testuser2 login) now i want to access all these certificates from my ASP page using CAPICOM. I could see the count of certificates. But when i wanted to sign a message it fails. From ASP I could not even use Admin certificate for signing.     - Problem with MicroSoft Express Recently when recieving mail, attachments such as a jpg or pdf files are "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail". I have sent e-mails from me to me which I know are safe however still get the message.     - effects of critical updates I'd be grateful for any help. I regularly download critical updates for XP, especially if they are connected with security. In the last week I have downloaded the the two most recently released, and I have noticed an effect caused to some of the "shortcuts" on my desktop: those for "Floppy Disk (A)";"DVD Player"(in my case "(E)"); and "CD Recorder" (in my case "(D)")no longer work, and I cannot reinstate them. I find these shortcuts helpful, and it is a nuisance to have them go wrong. Other shortcuts are not affected.     - SPYWARE I have a new Dell 486 with WinXP. Everytime I start the computer a window appears on the desktop that says DOWNLOAD CASINO - WAITING TO CONNECT I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, talked to Dell for 2 hours, defrag, check disk, restore system, etc. The 2 files appear under DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS as kscasino_min and kscasino. There were no error messages, the WWW service is started, Internet Service Manager says that the site is Up&Running, the log files of IIS are writing my request, but IIS is not giving files back to the browser. I have then removed the 4 Security Bulletins, using Control Panel/add remove programs, but the site was not working anyway. I have rebooted many times the server, and I have noticed that suddenly, after 5, 10 or 20 minutues IIS starts responding to requests with the usual speed. (it seems like there is a timeout of a service and/or a dll) If have then seen in Internet Service Manager that the Execute Permission of my ASP applications was set to: Scripts and Executable and not to Scripts like it should be normally. I Have changed that to Scripts, and from that moment everything works fine, so If I reboot the server, IIS starts resonding to requests just after the reboot, like it does normally. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, because if I change it back to scripts and executable it works fine. I don't know if one of that 4 Security Bulletins have caused this problem, even after having removed them, or if someone has been able from the Internet to alter my web server.     - Immediate Attention Required I recently received an e mail with the subject of 'immediate attention required' and a file attached titled installer.exe. The message said this was a patch update and recommended for all windows users. Win95,win98,winme,and winxp.     - MS JVM on windows 98--uninstall? two issues really: 1. I find it silly and possibly risky to update the JVM with the latest security patch. I find it irresponsible of MS not to extend their wise "remove Java" mentality to all supported operating systems, and I urge them to do so. Is there a way to uninstall the MS JVM?     - WinXP Critical Security Update KB 821557 I downloaded/installed the 821557 Critical Security Update for Windows XP from the Windows Update site. After installation/restart my PC (HP Pavilion ze 5155) running Windows XP Home w/SP1 slowed down to a practical halt. After rebooting several times, the OS returned to normal speed but I could no longer use the shortcuts I had created in the quick launch toolbar. All shortcut properties dialogues warned me that the shortcut's target was invalid; eventhough the targets existed on my hard drive. I restored my system to the pre-821557 update and all shortcuts in my quick launch toolbar work correctly again. Hi guys, there is a site I regularly go to, http://www.ggmania.com and on this site the guy has some sort of script that takes over your mouse and drags it slowly to a links on the left side of his page called, 'make this my default home page' blah blah...     - Critical Vulnerability of MS in News Yesterday I read in the newspaper yesterday that there is a critical vulnerability for all versions of Microsoft Windows and that users should go to www.microsoft.com/security for a free software repairing patch. I did that and the info said that I had to do the repair in steps. I did the first step and it took between 2-3 hours and I had to sit at my computer the whole time because of the message we get if our computer is idle for a while...that you will be disconnected in 29 seconds if you don't click STAY ONLINE. This morning I went to Review and Install Updates (as instructed yesterday) to finish the other steps for my repair. At that part it stated that it would take 2 hrs. and 23 min. I have been informed by a friend to check my computer for
a virus called jdbgmgr.exe, i have searched for this file
and have found 2 files called this, when i have held my
mouse over them it says they are a microsoft debugging
file for Java. Is this correct or is it a virus?

this is a HOAX - so don't delete those file which are use for Java compliler
and execution
