security not easy to get
It's not easy to find your way around in the growing
digital world. Not everybody is as advanced as others and
that's o.k., it has always been that way in evolution.
Security is around as long there is life on earth. Each
individual has it's own way of security.
In the 21 century we have to deal with a digital security.
My question:
How secure you find internet?
Do you trust completely on it?
Do you have your doubts about it?
What's your security failure experience on the internet?
just curious,

Pop Ups
I've gotten great advice here in the past on where to
download Anti virus programs free. Does anyone know of
anywhere to download something that will stop pop ups??
Most of my pop ups are ads for software that will stop
them, ironic, huh?! But they are all $40 and up. Thought
maybe there is a website out there somewhere that offers
downloads. Thanks In Advance! Tag: Test Tag: 23344
activex controls
On the msn money site, I'm no longer able to get the page
to come up with my stock and mutual fund prices.
A pop-up box comes up and says: "security settings
prohibit running Active X controls." It just started
doing this. What should I do to get this page to display
again. Tag: Test Tag: 23338
Novell Client vs Windows 2000 Password Sync
I've been trying to add a Win 2000 Pro machine with a
Novell Client Login to join a Windows NT Domain.
The computer joins the domain fine, but when a user trys
to log on, the PC is not syncing the Novell login password
to sync with the Windows 2000 password.
How do I go about searching for policies that might be
preventing the password syncing? Tag: Test Tag: 23335

Security Update 2/13/2002 MSXML 4.0
Windows Update constantly alerts that
this update is needed despite the fact
that it's been done (several times) on a
W98SE machine.
Any way to stop the alerts? Thanks! Tag: Test Tag: 23314
email security
It used to be (I think) that opening an e-mail was safe as
long as you didn't open attached files.
Now I'm hearing people can use code to get into your
system which is unseen and contained in the body of the e-
mail and simply opening this e-mail to read it can unleash
this code.
What I'd like to know is if you are at risk simply by
opening an e-mail that has no file attached to it. And
what can I do to prevent this, short of not opening e-
mails? Tag: Test Tag: 23300

Messanger Service Pop Ups
Am getting pop ups in middle of screen under
title "Messanger Service". Most are selling software to
fix a "glitch" in Microsoft's Windows Messanger installed
in Windows 2000, NT or XP, or so they claim. Also get a
few of same type of pop ups not selling anything but
wanting to chat. How do I get rid of these unwanted pop
ups. My AOL "Blocking Pop ups" doesn't work on this
problem. What does? Tag: Test Tag: 23268
can i stop web page redirection
ok.
The problem:
Some one changed a file in my IE program Files.
Reason I came to this conclusion:
First: my search page was changed from the msn search
page to www.white-pages.ws. They did a good job too. When
I went to click customize search it opened the same page
in a new window; very clever.
Solved this by downloading upgrade of IEv5.5 to IE v6.02
and blocking web page by putting in the restricted sites
under Internet Options/Security Tab, restricted Icon.
Second: I tried viewing a geocities.com site and was
redirected to www.white-pages.ws. So I typed in
www.geocities.com and the page came up. Now when I typed
in www.geocities.com/ (note: added the back slash to
indicate subdirectory) and it came up with white page ws
again.
So I went offline and deleted the temporary internet
(all off-line content) and cookies then placed in the
address bar www.geocities.com ... unable to pull up page
off-line. I then typed in www.geocities.com/ and poof,
the page shows up.
I assume it is like the 404 Error page and I just don't
know what the name of the file is. I had another website
change that in a previous version IE.
Questions:
Is there a place where you can find out the name of
these files or where they are stored? ie. 404 Error,
Search page, and so on.
Is there any way to stop web redirection? So that
instead of being redirected to www.white-pages.ws.com it
will ask or prevent the redirection.
Is there a way to fix this problem, or is it a standard
Window's reformat and reinstall issue?
I thank you for your time. A response would be more than
greatly appreciated. Tag: Test Tag: 23261
Pop-up ad filtering
I have Windows ME. In the past week I have had a flood of
pop-up ads, some of which are very offensive. We are using
Comcast broadband for Internet connection. In one answer
to a related question I was informed some versions of
Windows have an Admin Tool called Messenger than can be
turned off to discourage these pop ups. I can't find
Messenger on my system.
*Is there something in Windows that I can adjust to fix
the problem or am I going to have to buy a pop-up filter?
*If the latter, which ones do you recommend? Tag: Test Tag: 23259
Help me with pop up!
Can anyone help? I'm being driven mad by a pop up that
appears every half hour when I'm in Outlook 2000 or on the
net. It's an ad for something called EndAds.com also
ByeByeads.com and trying to force me to buy their software
to get rid! I've now got Mcaffees firewall and Privacy
Service as well as Ad-aware installed (Ad aware picked up
16 parasites, but this thing still keeps coming!). HElp

someone unknown sending spam from my id address
I was recently contacted by Road Runner because someone
got into my computer from the internet and was using my ip
address to send spam. I've added a firewall and have it
set so that I have to permit or deny any access to or from
my computer. I get two messages (every minute!) that I
can't find information on. Following is the Incoming
Message Alert!from Kerio firewall software:
"Someone from 192.168.1.1, port 1901 wants to send UDP
datagram to port 1900 owned by 'SSDP Service on Windows
Millennium' on your computer"
Details about application: c:\windows\system\ssdpsrv.exe
Can someone tell me what legitimate program might be
needing this access? I do not host a site on my computer.
I have high speed internet access through Time Warner/Road
Runner. I don't file share with anyone and only have one
computer connected. Tag: Test Tag: 23252
Blank windows update notifications...
Lately, when XP's automatic windows updater has announced
an update is ready, clicking on "info" has produced a
blank window: No information about what's about to be
downloaded.
This means either MS has developed a bug in the updater or
someone else has hijacked the update system and is doing
God knows what with it.
These blank updater windows have been labeled
both "Windows Updates" as well as "Intel Network" updates,
which is meaningless, as a practical matter, since a
hacker could label it anything he wants.
I certainly hope Microsoft will look into this situation
promptly. This is not a Good Thing.
Very truly,

June 2003 Cumulative Patch
Hello, I received an email this morning advising me to
run an attached file, called update804.exe. An email
scanner at the server removed the attachment, telling me
that it believed it contained a virus. What now?
Thanks,
