I usually run a laptop that I thought perfectly sure. Genuine software,
Windows Xp with SP2 and firewall, Norton, Ad-aware, Windows Defender... all
of them updated. I have scaned my laptop for viruses and spyware last
thursday and all was OK. I was surprised this morning when I tried to use the
computer and I can not get into my account... when I finally opened muy
account, all the desktop icons were moved and the windows appearance was
changed. All the icons on Start menu have dissapeared, and My Files was
empty. Indeed I can not use a the programs I have installed, like Word, nor
Windows security center or Norton... I am really surprised because I thought
that I was safe and OK, and I have no idea about what could be happening...
What do you think? Thank you very much for your opinion

Hi.

Some times, there are two identicle usernames in a laptop computer. One
to log into your domain, and one to log in locally. Check in
"C:\documents and settings" and look for folders in there containing
your username, try opening these folders up in a new window. Once
inside, open the 'desktop' and 'start menu' folders to see if your
missing icons are present. If so, try logging off, and changing the
'log in to:" pull-down box in the log in screen to whatever it's
alternate value is.

Just a thought, hope it helps!
