Is it possible to configure XP to store username and passowrd information on a memory card instead of the hard disk? My reason for asking is because when a computer is stolen, insurance replaces the hardware, backup media replaces the data, but usenames and passwords (The ones that pop-up on log on screens for all sorts of services when you have selected "save") are very dangerous to have in the hands of the thief. So I'm thinking, well... if I can have XP store all that sort of thing on a memory card instead of the hard disk I can just keep that in my wallet.

what happens when your wallet gets stolen? best to keep passwords where no
one can steal them, in your head!

As far as I know, no. Such data is stored in the registry, encrypted.

Computers with all consumer and enterprise operating systems have to store
information that is used to verify access credentials and, as a result, can
be used to brute-force password guessing. On the other hand, physical access
to the hardware immediately exposes data unless data encryption is used.

Memory cards cannot be used to store local passwords in XP. To remove local
storage of access credentials, use domain accounts and set Windows not to
cache credentials locally (connectivity to the domain will be required for
logon).

It is much easier to walk away with a memory card. Stored passwords are
encrypted in the registry. The decryption key is your personal certificate.
Your login password is very strong, right?
