Does anyone know if it is possible to stop all the recent
emails containing the swen virus at the server. I have
been receiving about 100 emails a day. Unfortunately I
stupidly infected myself when I opened the attachment the
first time I got the email on the 18th but I managed to
disinfect my computer and downloaded the updated virus
definitions from Norton. So although I have bocked the
senders on my email program and Norton is intercepting
and disinfecting, I am still getting huge amounts of the
emails in my deleted folder and constantly getting the
Norton popups saying that it has cleared an infected
email. It is driving me to distraction. Will it ever
stop? Can I get it stopped at the server so that it
doesn't even get to my computer or do I have to change my
e-mail address which would be a real pain, not only to
notify everyone but also because I have quite a few
subcriptions to various things. Can anyone help??
Many thanks
Margarita

Only if your ISP provides email filtering.
For example, mine provides it for free.
It's called SPAM GUARD. All i have to do is
Access the Web Mail through web browser
and enable it or disable it. It also has Low/Medium/High
spam detection. It also keeps the detected spam
in special folder for a number of days, so i can review it.
All this is free for subscribers.

Check with your ISP. Specifically check if it has
Web Mail access through browser. If it does, just look
through settings there and see if it has anything related to
spam detection.

This is one solution (there are many like it) that will download just
headers so that you can check what email is there and accept / delete
emails before you download into your email program. Also good for
deleting SPAM.

One thing: don't use the Bounce feature, it causes more pain than good.

For end users, there are several "proxy" client software you can use/buy.
These are installed on your PC and they become "middle ware", between you
and your ISP. When setup properly, it basically takes over action of
picking up mail for you from your ISP. Outlook doesn't know any difference.
It thinks it is talking your ISP, but it really talking to the PROXY. The
proxy gives your mail, cleans it up, does whatever for you, and then feeds
the clean stuff to Outlook so that you see the new mail in your inbox.

More and more ISPS are automatically doing this for you on their end when
they receive mail for you and put it in your "storage box" holding your mail
into you pick it up with outlook.

But if your ISP is not providing this service, you can get one of these
proxies.

Go to google and search for "POP3 Proxy"
