I see some reassuring responses from "Sandi" and "Saljaline." I hate to make you respond once again to the same brush fire as you say, but I really want my mom to be reassured that she is really safe. She is a senior citizen who knows little about computers and I don't know much either. Just a brief 'yes' or ' no' would be great.

The message she's getting seems to be a little bit different from the others, and spybot is claiming they can't fix the problem. Here's her message: "DSO Exploit: There is a secuity hole in IE allowing websites to execute code without asking you first. You can find more information at . . .

My mom is a Windows XP user and she is updated with all the Microsoft critical updates. Is she safe? Can she quit worrying about this Spybot message or should she do something more

Thank you very, very much.

Part of the "art" of using newsgroups is knowing how to weigh a particular
response to your question, or one similar to it.

Both Sandi and Siljaline are very knowledgable in this area. Siljaline, in
particular, follows issues related to Spybot Search & Destroy, CWShredder,
and Ad-aware very closely, and is probably in very regular communication
with the sources of these applications.

I believe them when they say this is nothing to worry about.

Check that she is using the current version of Spybot Search & Destroy,
version 1.3, and with detections updated May 29th 2004 or later.
