I cannot say for sure, but I usually get a good 30-40 emails per day with
about 5-8 being Spam, the others are alot of Microsoft newsletters and other
computer newsletters and then about 5 real emails. This number very rarely
varies more then just a few.

On a couple of times logging in over the last few weeks, I have gotten maybe
5 emails altogether and have had friends say they email me, but I never
received the email. This has never been a problem on MSN except years ago
when a "friend" found my login info and was diverting mail. I just changed
the password again, (last time that helped for about 10 days) and so
far....at least for the last few days I am back to receiving my normal
emails. However over the last week (before I changed the password again)
there was a very large drop in the emails that I received.
Is there anyway to get basically a "log on file" from MSN that would show
what IP's people used to logon to my account ? This would at least limit the
people that might have access to the email. Not sure if this is something
for Microsoft Privacy or Security or what. The general customer service just
give me thee pre-canned message to change your password often. The last
password I used was a long one (about 18 characters) and I do not know any
other way around this.
Any ideas out there as this is something I really do not like very much !
Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your problem Tedd, I know how you
feel, invasion of privacy is makes your blood curdle.
I dont the the answer to your question.
But one way round this would be close down your MSN ID,
and get a new one. It will be a bother to let the ppl
you know, about the change, but it will stop whoever it
is getting your new ID and password.

Hi Tedd,

This issue would have me looking for another ISP. Either someone being able
to discover your password, or an ongoing server problem would be
unacceptable. It is interesting that the recommended action is to change the
password *often*. I'll need to check what my ISP recommends. Do you have an
idea who might be interested in intercepting your e-mails?

Tim
Well yes I do have an idea as the person did a few years ago when they were
able to physically get to my email account (and my Notebook) as they had a
trick that they could go directly into MSN and download all the messages
that I had missed. But...I assumed that changing the password would stop
this, but it does not look like it has. The person has also posted some
things on the net that I found using my email address as when I did a search
on google for both my name and email address, there were several messages
that had one or the other or both and they were for sure not from me. I am
thinking of changing to Verizon ADSL or maybe Comcast cable. But I hate to
give up my old email address as this one has been around since MSN first
started.

Thanks Blondie,
Yes you are right, the invasion of privacy feel like someone broke into my
house and still is there, its a rotten feeling ! I might do as you say and
shut down the MSN account, just hate to do that as I have had this email
address for so long. But it would be worth it !
Thanks again

Changing the password would stop access to your account..if a profile where
a secret question is available..change the answer to something totally
unrelated to the question.e.g. Favorite Color = Queen Mary...the extra
insurance could avoid someone resetting the password..but a password change
will not stop others from using the address fraudulently..

I'm basically having a similar problem with mine, what is
the cause, as I don't think anybody has my password, I
was logged out about half an hour after changing my
password. What do I do?

I am not using my MSN address,. Try to send to it and see how far it goes..
It is set up that way so that people that want to write to me can, but the
spam harvesters will only get a invalid address. No email has a , (comma) in
it or a 0 (Zero) in the URL address. Since changing to this format, I do not
get any additional spam, only people that want to write to me directly. Plus
sitting behind some pretty good Firewalls, Spam filters and Spy search
programs, I just do not get much junk. Thanks for the warning. What about
your email address ? it is in the clear.

That's true, but I figure the auto-Spammers will not understand that and if
they do, then they will get a nicely munged email (somewhat like
PABear@AOL.com) :-)
