I am being told by my Service Provider not to install SP2. I am told that it
has a lot of problems. From reading about it I think that it has some good
features but I'm concerned that if I install it I wont be able to connect to
the net. Any comments, I appreciated any experienced in this matter. sam

Some people say this.
However it shouldn't really hurt to install it. It's been out for a
while now and not many are complaining anymore. All the systems I
repair nowadays I make sure SP2 is installed.

Go ahead and do it. There's always an uninstall option.
Here's a method of uninstalling it;

1. Get a new ISP.

2. Install SP2 and post-SP2 updates.

3. Only contact your ISP about connection-related problems.

Your Service Provider has no position in telling you what version of Windows
to run or upgrade to!

Ask them to be specific and provide a credible source for their information.
SP2 was fairly radical for a service pack and it did initially break some
applications because it enforces a new level of security for applications.
That was quite a while ago in terms of how fast computer technology evolves
and now millions and million of installations have it installed with no
problems. SP2 has the ability to be uninstalled. I highly recommend that you
install it. My guess is that your ISP is too lazy to want to support it as
it does introduce a higher level of security in Internet Explorer and may
introduce more support calls to them as users get used to the new improved
features which is stupid as overall it will make their job easier. ---

You should make sure that your system is free of viruses and spyware
before upgrading. SP2 is know to have trouble if it is installed on a
severly compromised system.

You really, really need it.
Ask your ISP for specifics - as their software may have
issues - which is not a reason for you to stay back but for
you to change ISPs.
If you are not at SP2 then you are not using Windows Update
to its fullest, and as a home user you should be staying current
with what Windows Update is delivering for your protection.

Your service provider doesn't want to deal with you calling and saying
"My internet is broken" when the issue is you installed SP2 and
haven't configured the firewall correrctly.
