Dear all

My environment is a Windows 2003/2000 server environment with around 40
Workstations: -

- WSUS server is a Windows 2003 server
- Test Client Server is a Windows 2000 server

I have around 40 Workstations and they are all talking to the WSUS Server
and updates are being downloaded to each workstation fine.

I have read the WSUS documentation and understand that Windows Server 2000
OS is supported by WSUS.

I have moved the server to a OU with the WSUS Policy enabled.

I have executed the wuauclt.exe /detectnow command

I have also executed a 'gpresult' command to see whether the Server has
inherited the WSUS policy, it has fine.

Any Recommendations or Advice Would be much appreciated.

Regards

Bruno

What service pack level is the Windows 2000 server at? If SP2, or below, you
will need to install the automatic updates client (or better still, apply
the latest service pack).

Hi,

You might want to run the "Client Diagnostic Tool" found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/downloads/default.mspx

And some log files you need to look at at the client:

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
and
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

Note that the text goes pretty far out to the right on the latter file,
turn off any line wrapping in your text editor.

and:

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093

And a fyi:

Please post WSUS related issues to the newsgroup dedicated to WSUS:
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new
group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:

The Service Pack of the machine is Service pack 4, to comment on the 'Client
Diagnostic Tool', I do not want to install the tool on without knowing
whether it requires a reboot or not.

Any more recommendations or advice about why My server client is not
communicating with the WSUS server would be appreiciated.

Kind Regards

Bruno
