    - Disabling DCOM on Win2K SP2? Microsoft has a workaround for these RPC vulnerabilities which is to disable DCOM. However, they say that on Win2K you must be on at least SP3...Since you can disable DCOM on NT4.0, I need to figure out why the SP requirement on Win2K. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Erik.     - FIREWALL question In general, when setting up a firewall, what is the relation in opening up internal ports vs the external when you want to allow traffic from the internal to the external? i.e.: if i want users on the internal network to send smtp traffic (port 25) then do NEED to open port 25 on BOTH the internal and external interface?, or just the internal?     - ICS & TCP/IP filtering I have a PC which conntects to the Internet via a dial-up modem. It also connects to a home LAN. I share Internet for my LAN with ICS. I don't want LAN user using some Internet service such as IRC so i use TCP/IP filtering in the advanced tab of TCP/IP settings, but the filter only block connection with specified destination port while connecting to the PC, it does not block traffic with the same port from LAN user to the Internet via ICS.     - Why does the KB824146scan.exe toll show Cisco devices as "unpatched" I ran the KB824146scan.exe tool against my domain to find unpatched machines and it returned "unpatched" on several Cisco devices.     - pc keeps re-booting after applying ms03-026 patch Hi, I really hope someone can help me with this one - I have a braodband connection from NTL, my pc was infected with a virus via NTL's network. They sent a disc with the above patch and an MSBlaster removal tool from Symantech on it. I followed the instructions but the tool reported no virus. I also ran an exe supplied by NTL via the net called FixWelch.exe - this did report a virus and said it had been removed. Since then I have been unable to use any MS application without the pc rebooting after a couple of key strokes.     - How to reset system settings when a certain user logs off? Hi there im just wandering if anyone knows the answer to this question... At my college. You can add stuff to the desktop like, Files and folder. However, when you logoff and then logon again the files and folders you added will be gone and anything you changed to the system while you were on there like wallpaper, Position of icons and anything you renamed example if you renamed My Documents to My Docs it would be reset to My Documents again when you log back on.     - Block users from finding IP address using MSN Messenger Hello All, I have come to know that people talking to you on MSN Messenger can find out your IP address using netstat or a packet sniffing software. How can I block people from doing that ? My network setup is such that I have a router that is connected to a gateway and all our network clients are connected to the gateway. Although due to using NAT , individual users IP address is not exposed , but people can find out the router IP address and then do a whois to track the rest of the details. This relates to the above three patches, all of which are for Office 2000; I'm running it on Windows 98. I've never had any trouble installing Office-related patches before. However, instead of the patches seeking for the Office 2000 CD's on my CD-ROM drive (which I know they're supposed to do), only my floppy drive is searched.     - Cannot run commands I have a Win 2000(servers) XP (clients) network. We use a T1 line. During the day every other 15 minutes we cannot connect to the internet. If you keep trying for 2-3 minutes you will eventually access the site, no matter what website. While I can not access I try to run a command like Ipconfig, flush DNS, etc. and my computer cannot recognize the command. If I reboot the computer I am able to run commands and access the sites.     - Error 1721 - unable to install NIS'03 I continue to get the above error message (Error 1721) while attempting to download the new Norton (NIS) 2003. I have followed all instructed attempts to correct the problem - ie; clean boot, reinstall, unregister and reregister the MSI. I have even returned the new disc for another, all to no avail. If for some reason the newer version is not compatable, is there another software for security that is recommended?     - MS0-039 install problem I rolled out the 039 patch to my NT 4 Terminal Servers over the weekend and all but one installed fine. The other pops up an access is denied error when it tries to copy over rpcss.exe file. I made sure the permissions were fine (logged in as domain / local admin) but I can't get past this error.
