Hello,
I am using winXP SP2 Pro.
There are 2 users on this computer, "Me" and "Myself".
Me has admin.rights, and Myself is a limited user.

Myself should only be able to surf, download a picture,
run security,and clean up.

I have noticed that I can get all the way down to the
"system32" folder, which I heard is not the best thing
for a limited user.

I am not familiar with configuring any users,
and just used what was provided to make a new user,
and do not mess with the administry part if I can help it.

So if someone could point me to some
layman tutorials on "how to" it would be appreciated
very much..

What I am trying to accomplish here ,or at least deter is,
anyone, getting to know me and/or my machine,
through the internet, since
I am the only one on this computer, nothing can
harm me from this side..

Thanks for any help.

"I heard" doesn't really give good vibes on where you're getting your security
advice!

System32 contains files that your limited users need to be able to read and
execute. Executables to run, DLLs to load into processes that run, etc, etc.
But, since it's full of files that all users will be reading and executing,
it's important to make sure that your limited users cannot _write_ there,
creating, altering or deleting files.

Try creating a file as your limited user - can you?

Create a file as your administrator user, then try to write to it, or delete
it as the limited user - can you?

Alun.

Alun,
you are right, about "I heard",so I will rephrase that sentence,
and say, I have read it in one of these news groups, can't remember which one.

Also I did not know that there was a need for all users to be able to do all
you said,with the system32 files..

And as far as writing or creating a file goes, this is the best I can do,
C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.EXE,
but I have never written or created a file, and wouldn't know how to do it.
Thanks for your input ,and please teach me..

I think you're in the wrong group. You need to understand how to use your
computer better than this, before you will be able to understand how to secure
it, or to tell whether or not it is secure.

Don't try to fly before you can walk.

I would suggest you look and see if there are any classes in your area
teaching basic computer use.
