Welly well well, I try to run the scan at
http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/downloads/default.htm ; but it stops
loading after two sec and tells me it's blocking active content, now I try to
disable blocking but it doesnt work. I also tried to lower security and put
the address in the safe places list but to no avail.
I posted the above at some other newsgroup here and since then I have tried
to fix it by deleting the Safety Scanner files on my drive; now IE just
crashes with a message telling me something is wrong with the Safety Scanner
component when I try to reinstall it. Can I somehow fix this new problem?

Are you just trying to test out the new Windows Beta Live Care (or
whatever they're calling it) or do you think you have a virus? If the
former, I would think they'd have a contact number or website where you
were trying to scan.

If you think you have a virus and don't have a current version
full-featured antivirus installed, start by scanning with either
Sysclean or Dave Lipman's Multi-AV. Follow up by getting, installing,
and updating a full-featured av and then doing a thorough scan. After
you've scanned for viruses, look for non-viral malware. Instructions
for using Sysclean and scanning for non-viral malware are here:

Multi-AV and instructions are here:
